beaches, speeches, napkins, stoich, and sales
sigh... it's been a long week.
to start it off, there was the much anticipated geology field trip to taal volcano and taal lake, which turned into a taal-scenery and rock- trip due to recent tectonic activity. and what a field trip it turned out to be. the only thing we did barely classifiable as academic was a short activity done atop a mountain with a view of taal lake. the rest of the trip alternated between eating, movie-watching on the bus, boat rides, and beach play! colds, headaches, and impending exams couldn't stop me from enjoying the trip. and as always, imed proved to be a heck of a fun group to be with on trips like these. foodtripping, camratting, synchronized swimming, sand sculpting, ocean horseplaying, pool raiding, public showering, you name it, we did it, and with as much fun and laughter as we could.
the day ended too quickly, and late that night we were left with seawater-soaked clothing and dozens of pages' worth of comm notes to study for the next day. and as one does after a enjoyable yet tiring day of adventuring, we went home and spent an hour trying to absorb what we could from the handouts. and to start the next day, all 3 of us at the condo woke up late, missed our first class, and ended up running to our comm midterms because the venue was changed without our knowledge. and what can you expect, i totally blew the exam. even the oral part, which most of my blockmates got perfect marks for, i had to screw up. damn pronunciation of subsequently. at least it was 1 down. 4 more to go.
tuesday was for the zoo lec and lab exams, so evilly planned out to coincide on the same day. but this time, we had the usual study group in the condo. which only means more foodtripping than usual, and a juicy round of gossip and backstabbing, with a minimal amount of studying. luckily, both exams went well with more than satisfactory results for both.
wednesday and thursday passed, no exams but we had to study for saturday tests and finish lab reports for friday. and the weird thing was, i went all moody and loner-type on those days. meaning i left my usual group of friends on most times and just went my own way. people commented that it was just like i had pms, and they even thought i bought sanitary napkins one afternoon when i came home from rob place. i never really figured out why i went all pms on everyone those days. may have been just the stress and the headaches talking. or i may have really been pissed at something. the world may never know.
by friday, i was feeling more of a bit like my old self, and so the day went by better. except that the water in the condo was cut off the whole morning, leaving us with unflushed toilets and unbathed bodies. 2 girls slept over for our chem study group, and one of them just had to go release metabolic wastes before they went home. this meant that the stuff in the toilet stagnated and fermented for over 12 hours before we came home and finally flushed it down. the sight was just gruesome, and the odor too horrendous for words. that night, we had yet another group study session, but this time in mcdonalds un avenue. 4 students studying for chemistry in a 24-hour fastfood joint with limited cash is not a happy sight. but somehow we managed to actually get some work done, and to chow down a couple thousand calories' worth of fries in the process.
saturday, chem lec and lab exams. neither was really easy nor really hard, at least it looked like the studying paid off somewhat. interesting fact though, i was the first to pass my test paper for both exams. does that mean really confident answers and high scores, or really itching to go home? i'll just have to find out this week. and on the way home, i took a little detour to sm north (actually, more like a 4-hour detour) and decided to treat myself to sale items for a week well done. uhm, not so much well done as survived through. anyway, i came home with new shirts and a new cap. saw cute, well-priced shoes at bench, but didn't have the cash handy. oh well, for next time then.
luckily, there will be no need to relive that week anytime soon. meaning no exams this week!
ah, well deserved rest.
